Wine on tap? Yes please.

Recently, I’ve been making the most of my new local wine shop in Stoke Newington, it’s called Borough Wines and this is their third shop in London (Borough Market and Wilton Way near Hackney Central).

They’ve got a really amazing selection of interesting and delicious wines, these tend to be a bit more expensive than your standard supermarket but are totally worth the extra few quid, the quality is amazing! But what really makes this place stand out is that they have massive barrels of French red, white and rosé wine that you can fill up yourself in a reusable glass bottle. You pay a deposit on the bottle (£2.50) when you first go and they just bring it with you each time (I have about four..) and it’s a fiver a pop.

It’s normally Southern French wines, though last time I went they had some delicious Italian treats. It isn’t the most complex wine I’ve ever had but sometimes that’s a good thing! Not only are they incredibly good value but they are super versatile with food or just on their own. I also love the whole experience, filling up your chosen wine into a brand-free bottle and paying a set price feels wonderfully liberating (in a wine way). It’s so much more exciting than a boring supermarket or weird off-licence. They’re very knowledgable so they will always answer any questions you have.

If you’re more of a beer fan, they’ve got a brilliant selection, including local ale on tap!

And if that wasn’t enough, they’ve started doing cups of festively spicy mulled wine, the only thing to carry whilst wandering down Church Street.

About pinotmoi

I work in the wine industry and want to get the younger generation into wine. Ultimately, to get people drinking better wine. I try to not be a wine snob, although I slip up on occasion. Feel free to comment and ask any questions!
